Heavy rains and floods have wreaked havoc in parts of Western Europe, with rescue workers currently trying to prevent further damage.

According to media reports, the death toll reached above 150 on Saturday, with the figure expected to rise as the flood waters recede.

Parts of Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands have been affected, but the most severe floods are in Germany and Belgium.

Germany’s Ahrweiler county in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is one of the most affected regions along with North Rhine-Westphalia, the country’s most populous state.

The World Meteorological Organization said on Friday that parts of western Europe have received two months of rain in just two days.
