Doctor agrees with Biden that Facebook is ‘killing people’ with COVID misinformation

“I think social media is playing a big role in spreading misinformation, due to which people are not taking the vaccine, which is leading to their death,” Bhadelia said. “This is the honest truth. Covid, right now, is a vaccine-preventable disease.”

Bhadelia cited the findings of a Kaiser Family Fund survey which found that 54% of Americans either believe or cannot distinguish whether a common COVID vaccine myth is fact or fiction.

The US is grappling with a drop in vaccination rates and an increase in infections. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, all 50 states have reported a surge in Covid cases in the past week. Bhadelia told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” that she believes social media companies can do a lot to stop the propaganda.

“They need to invest a lot of resources, and invest more resources in transforming their metrics, to better increase their balance of taking that information down more quickly, because right now, your pages What you get on top of isn’t right, it’s popular,” said NBC News medical contributor Bhadelia.

He also suggested that social media companies partner more with public health bodies to ensure that people get accurate information.

Facebook spoke out against the claims made by the White House.
